Staying Healthy Throughout the Summer

Parties, barbecues, pool time fun, we’re tempted to think we can’t be healthy and have a good time. But if we practice moderation and also a few helpful tips I’m going to share, we can have our cake and eat it too, so to speak.

Don’t go to a party famished. That is the number one rule. Once famished, our self-control goes out the window. Have some nuts and protein to tide you over, and when you get to the party, go for the veggie platter first if they have one, then go for things that look homemade and least processed. Chips are my weakness, so I just put a few on my plate towards the end when I’m not as hungry and I make sure to savor them and eat them slowly. You don’t have to deprive yourself of dessert either to keep your figure, and if you do have some, you shouldn’t beat yourself up, just enjoy one dessert eaten nice and slow.

Another tip is to get some moderate exercise where you sweat for at least 10 minutes, 5 days a week. This will help you detox and will help stimulate your metabolism, kind of like keeping a fire stoked. If you can do more, great, but if not, a little bit will go a long way if done consistently.

Stay hydrated. This will help everything, it will help your digestion, your cellular detoxification, cellular respiration, your energy levels, and will help you lose weight. Also feed yourself quality foods, stick to the 80/20 rule, eat good nutrition 80% of the time and leave 20% for snack, or foods that aren’t necessarily perfect.

Make sure to supplement. This will be your edge, there’s really no other way to get truly optimum health in the environment we live in without some concentrated nutrition from supplements. It’s always food first, then supplementation, but even if you’re eating all organic fresh foods, the soils have been depleted of minerals, we have a toxic load coming from the chemicals all around us, enough chemicals produced every year to make 130 pounds per person! At the very least take a good quality multivitamin, a vitamin C, and a vitamin D. We have a great selection of high quality vitamins at Wild Roots.

Last but definitely not least is to prioritize sleep. How can we expect to be our best if we’re not letting ourselves recover, repair, and rejuvenate? Put down your electronics an hour before bed, drink some tea, take a sleep formula, but get yourself into bed, and get 7-9 hours of sleep a night.

Have fun with your friends and family this summer, that’s also important to your wellbeing and mental health, just know you can do it and be healthy at the same time.
