Who Are the People in Your Neighborhood? Jenny Wu
By Valerie White
On holidays Jenny’s door is always open. At Thanksgiving and Christmas, SLV Steve, the valley’s brilliant photographer, invites those with nowhere to go to the Red Pearl and buys them a meal. Jenny is always there for the community. This year has been hard on everyone. It has been exceptionally hard on Jenny. You would never know it, because Jenny keeps shining and smiling through every trial that she has been put through. And she has certainly had more than her share of disasters that might break someone who was not as unassailable as she is. Before Jenny left for what was supposed to be a joyful holiday, she had to have surgery on her knee and then go through physical therapy. She went through the ordeal and left to enjoy Chinese New Year in China. Boom! The virus hit and Jenny had to jump through every hoop imaginable to get back home. She almost thought they were going to make her stay there even though she was perfectly fine. Jenny made it back home, but now, just like so many of us, her business was majorly affected. When she was allowed, Jenny opened for takeout. Everyone missed the ability to hang out and chat with Jenny, and of course we were deprived of her beautiful welcoming smile. But we could still hear the caring in her voice and see the smile in her eyes. Just when Jenny and all of us thought things were becoming a little better, Boom! We all got evacuated, and horrific fires raged through our valley. For days, none of us knew if we would have a home or a town to come back to. Most of us were blessed to find that due to the incredible men and women in our Fire Dept, our homes and our town were saved. However, Jenny suffered another boom, the horrendous loss of her home. Jenny has an incredible Spirit and an enormous heart. After being closed for weeks as she dealt with finding a place for her and her animals to stay, and all the insurance and other processes, Jenny had a pre-opening. What was first on her mind? The community. Before opening for business, Jenny spent a week feeding the community for free!! If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Jenny stop by the Red Pearl and say hi. You won’t regret meeting one of the most loving people in the valley. I can’t wait until the day we can take off our masks and see Jenny’s delightful smile and give her a big hug.
Jenny Wu is practically a celebrity in Boulder Creek. Why is that? Jenny is the owner of the Red Pearl Restaurant. She makes everyone who comes in feel like family. By the time you are ready to leave you just want to give her a big hug. She always goes the extra mile in adding goodies to your order. There’s always a surprise when you open your bag. Jenny has a smile and a kind word for everyone.
