CRV Payments to End at Ben Lomond Transfer Station

Santa Cruz, CA — Starting July 1, 2025, California Redemption Value (CRV) reimbursements will cease at the Ben Lomond Transfer Station. While the site will continue to accept CRV-eligible bottles and cans for recycling, payments for these containers will no longer be issued.

This change is part of a statewide shift in California’s beverage container recycling program, aiming to enforce regulations requiring retailers, like grocery and convenience stores, to offer CRV redemption services. New state rules mandate retailers to provide in-store CRV refunds or join a dealer cooperative.

Until June 30, 2025, residents can still redeem containers at the Ben Lomond site, with proceeds supporting Grey Bears, a nonprofit aiding Santa Cruz County seniors facing food insecurity.

After July 1, recycling drop-off locations at Ben Lomond Transfer Station, Buena Vista Landfill, and Grey Bears’ main campus will remain available for recycling. Residents can also continue recycling via blue carts at home.
