If you have a non-profit organization and would like to come into the KBCZ studios to chat on-air about what your organization does, we would love to hear from
you! KBCZ broadcasts locally in the Santa Cruz Mountains at 90.1 FM and streams worldwide at kbcz.org. This is a unique opportunityto share information about
what you do with your community.
How does it Work?
Schedule an appointment to come into the studio by contacting StationManager, Tina Davey: Tinakbcz@gmail.com
Bring another person with you from your organization, if possible, with whom you can banter back and forth on the air.
Talk about your organization’s cause for half an hour. Just prepare a basic script for yourself outlining bullet-points you’d like to share to make the community aware
of what you do. You’ll have the opportunity to mention your contact information and be a DJ-for-a-day on KBCZ 90.1 FM, Boulder Creek Community Radio!
KBCZ Your Community Radio Station
In 2012, an FCC license became available for an NCE (Non-commercial educational) radio station at 90.1 FM. A group of San Lorenzo Valley community members
began to discuss plans to support the Boulder Creek Recreation and Park District (BCRPD) in purchasing the license. The community members had several meetings
and were excited to begin broadcasting. The radio signal would transmit to a large part of the San Lorenzo Valley.
On June 6, 2013 the BCRPD Board of Directors voted to moveforward with plans to obtain thestation. The public voiced strong support for the project, and the radio
station, KBCZ Boulder Creek Community Radio at 90.1 FM was born. Local residents began to arrive on KBCZ’s virtual doorstep wanting to get involved. Tim
Welch was named Interim Director, Tina Davey and Sam Peacock were named Interim Associate Directors.
After a year of steadily building infrastructure and pre-programming some original shows in a small studio above Jenna Sue’s coffee shop, KBCZ then moved
to a small room (the closet!) at the Rec Center.
In May of 2015, Tina Davey was hired by the BCRPD as Station Manager for KBCZ and Paul Nanna as named Technical Director.
KBCZ began to stream limited content online in 2014, and then began broadcasting original pre-recorded content at 90.1FM in July of 2015. These were pre-
recorded shows from Mike D, Jeff Smith, Bruce Bellochio, and Sean Greedy.
In September of 2016, KBCZ conducted their first live Monday through Friday morning show remotely from local music studio, the Boulder Creek Music Works.
With the help of Music Works owner, Barry Tanner, the show continued until early February of 2017.
In December of 2016, the BCRPD gave KBCZ permission to officially share space at its visitor center in downtown Boulder Creek at 13200 Hwy 9 and with the help
of Matt and Leslie Buchanan, who built the broadcast space, KBCZ opened its doors to the public in February of 2017.
In January of 2017, Leslie Buchanan was named Promotions Director and in June of 2017 the visitor center officially closed and the BCRPD gave KBCZ full use of the
space.
As a proud program of the Boulder Creek Recreation and Parks District, the radio station provides a unique recreational outlet for a portion of the residents that
were previously underserved by the District. BCRPD is proud to offer this innovative program with all its potential for creative growth and looks forward to its
evolution within and by the community it serves. KBCZ is always looking for new on-air shows and gratefully accepts community donations. Turn on, tune in!
