Project will help improve regional water supply resiliency
The Scotts Valley Water District today announced the start of a pipeline project that will install a new 8-inch water main along La Cuesta Drive, from the intersection of La Cuesta Drive, Miraflores Road and Altenitas Road to Quarterhorse Lane. This work will involve installation of approximately 1,450 feet of pipeline beneath the street.
This new water main is part of a larger regional effort to improve water system resiliency. Once construction is complete, the project will connect to Intertie 1, a major new project that will link the potable (drinking) water systems of the Scotts Valley Water District and the City of Santa Cruz. When Intertie 1 is complete, the two agencies will be able to share water through a 2-mile pipeline and pump station — helping both communities respond better to drought, emergencies and future water needs. This pipeline will also create another critical loop in the Scotts Valley Water District’s water distribution system.
Construction on La Cuesta Drive is scheduled to begin in late June and continue for approximately three to four weeks. Work will take place on weekdays during regular business hours. Residents can expect traffic delays and detours in the construction zone, as well as construction noise and equipment in the area. Once the pipeline installation is finished, crews will return in August to fully restore the road surface.
