Thank you all for braving the weather in helping Boulder Creek welcome Santa to Town for the lighting of the town tree. Because Friday was a rainy evening, Liberty Bank graciously allowed us to set the stage up under the drive thru area. We had wonderful music by Dancing with Molly, and Carey Liston had her elementary students from the valley, entertain us with holiday bell music. We had many non-profit vendors including the Fall Creek Booster Club with hot cider and baked goods, Lone Wolf with hot chocolate, the Cub Scouts with coffee, baked goods and light up items, and the Boy Scouts selling wreaths. Lisa Robinson also joined us in beautiful vintage attire to hand out info about the Museum. Santa arrived by fire engine courtesy of BCFD, and Lizzy Hultin read Santa a poem to welcome him back to Boulder Creek. Santa led the crowd in the countdown for the tree lighting and then Santa made his way to the Rec. Dept for pictures with the children. This popular event has been happening for a long time on the day after Thanksgiving. How-ever, we’ve had many requests to change the date over the past few years and especially this year. After giving it a lot of consideration, the BCBA and BCRPD have decided to move the event to the weekend after Thanksgiving for the future. Santa Comes to Town traditionally has been the day after Thanksgiving and was tied to Black Friday as a way to bring people to town and shop in the downtown. This tradition was established a long time before there was a Small Business Saturday established to support our downtown businesses. Our school district has also changed the school schedule to have the whole week off prior to Thanksgiving; so many families now go out of town for the week. Many other folks, who do stay in town and would like to participate in the event, are too overwhelmed with family commitments to do so. Since the event is really for the children, we feel having Santa Come to Town the weekend after Thanksgiving, will allow for many more children and families to attend and perform for the event. We’ll be sure to advertise the new Santa Comes to Town date so everyone can plan to attend this wonderful Boulder Creek tradition.
