Construction begins this winter for the nearly 1,000-foot-deep well
The Scotts Valley Water District (SVWD) today announced it will begin construction of a new production well at 5299 Scotts Valley Drive, near Grace Way, this winter.
The new 970-foot Grace Way Well has a design capacity of 500+ gallons per minute and will enhance operational efficiencies for the District, which relies solely on local groundwater. Water produced from this well site comes from the Butano and Lompico aquifers. Water from the new well will be conveyed to the El Pueblo Water Treatment Plant for filtration and disinfection before it is pumped into the District’s distribution system.
The project funding is from a $9.45 million grant awarded to SVWD by the State of California. The Grace Way Well will be the sixth water production well operated by SVWD, including the new Sucinto Well that will go online in early 2025.
Work at the site will begin with removing a former commercial building at the project site before the start of well drilling. A temporary sound wall surrounding the site will be installed to reduce construction noise in the nearby neighborhood. The 24-hour drilling phase for the new well will take approximately four weeks to complete. The overall construction period for the well will be approximately four months.
A community open house about this project is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Santa Margarita Community Room at the Scotts Valley Water District, 2 Civic Center Drive in Scotts Valley. Project updates will be shared on the District website, as well as Facebook, Instagram and Nextdoor.
