Three to four times a year the planet Mercury gives the impression of traveling in reverse in the sky for a period of about three weeks. This phenomenon is known as Mercury retrograde. Retrograde cycles are illusions that are caused by our perspective from earth, because the earth is circling the sun at a different rate than the other planets.
Mercury is the planet that rules communication. When Mercury is exhibiting its apparent retrograde motion, confusion tends to ensue. Mercury governs areas such as commerce, speaking, contracts, transportation and technology. Assessments can be difficult to make, and setbacks and obstacles are more likely to occur. It is a period when being careless with resources, personal data, or correspondence can be detrimental.
