Boulder Creek Gets a New Fire Engine

This March a brand-new, shiny engine pulled into the Boulder Creek fire station. Engine 2112 is a Type 1 all-risk engine. That means it is equipped to handle any emergency. The new engine holds four people, has a 1500-gallon-per-minute pump, and holds 600 gallons of water. Plus, it has 3 ladders: a 35 foot, 24 foot, and 14 foot. Engine 2112 is replacing the aged-out engine 2120.

This engine was built by Pierce, out of Wisconsin. Boulder Creek appointed a  committee to design every detail of Engine 2112. Most importantly, it has a short wheel base measuring only 162 inches, which allows the engine to navigate our mountain roads and steep driveways. With a combined 50 years of experience, the committee, consisting of everyone from Chiefs to Firefighters, left no detail unexamined. This engine is especially designed and built for our unique community. It is 100% Boulder Creek.

The engine was delivered to Sacramento, where it was detailed, then brought here to Boulder Creek.

The funds for the engine came from Measure N, voted on and approved by the voters—and endorsed by the Bulletin. Chief Mark Bingham wants to express his gratitude to the voters for providing the equipment the Boulder Creek volunteer fire department needs, including this new engine.

The engine is not in service yet. It needs a few steps to get it ready. Each Firefighter, Engineer, and Captain needs to be trained on the new engine; it needs to be completely outfitted with all the required equipment; and an inventory of each and every item needs to be taken.   Then it will be ready to respond to fires and local residents will begin to see it on the roads.
