Felton, CA: San Lorenzo Valley Middle School Theatre is proud to present Frozen JR., with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, book by Jennfier Lee, based on the Disney film written by Jennifer Lee and directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee. This 75-minute musical is directed by Scott Kravitz, with music and vocal direction by Nicki Kerns and choreography by Jayce Barber, and is presented at the SLV Performing Arts Center December 1 through December 3. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 2:00 p.m. A limited number of tickets will be available to purchase at the door 1-hour prior to showtime; advanced tickets are available online at the SLV Theatre Boosters webpage. Frozen JR. tells the tale of two sisters named Elsa and Anna. Elsa was born with magical powers beyond her control, and finds that she must go into seclusion to protect her younger sister. Elsa has to come out in the open for her coronation as queen, but her powers prove to be stronger than she thought, and she mistakenly plunges the entire kingdom of Arendale into perpetual winter. She flees the kingdom to avoid further damage, only to be pursued as a criminal by the frightened and angry citizens of Arendale. Can her sister find her and bring her back safely to restore Arendale back to normal? We follow Anna’s Odyssean journey and meet the colorful characters she teams up with to attempt to find and reunite with her beloved sister. Drawing inspiration from Hans Christian Anderson’s tale of “The Snow Queen”, Frozen JR. has been transformed from a feature film into a broadway musical with classic songs and heroic characters that only Disney Studios could create. A splendid time is guaranteed for all.
Scott Kravitz (Director) is a theater educator and enthusiast trained in the craft of theater at SUNY College at Old Westbury with the brilliant Georgia McGill. Scott’s directing and acting talents have graced the stages of MCT and Actors’ Theatre, as well as Paper Wing Theater in Monterey and many others. He is currently working toward a Teaching Credential in Theater and hopes to continue his work with the students of San Lorenzo Valley Middle and High School.
Nicki Kerns (Music and Vocal Director) holds a Piano Performance degree from Dominican College and a Master’s in Music Education from Boston University. She is currently the Staff Accompanist at San Lorenzo Valley High School, Music Director at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Santa Cruz, and teaches piano from her studio in Boulder Creek.
Jaycee Barber (Choreographer) is 15 years old and a Sophomore at Scotts Valley High School. She has been dancing since she was two and has been training all over Santa Cruz county! She has trained at Pacific arts complex, International academy of dance, and Agape Dance Academy, in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, and more. She has also been seen onstage multiple times with CYT Santa Cruz, where she has performed, choreographed, dance captained, and more! Some of her credits include: Ursula (Bye Bye Birdie), The Cowardly Lion (Wizard of Oz), and JoJo (Seussical)!
