The Brookdale Lodge Reimagined

By Mary A. Porter

This Santa Cruz Mountains treasure regains her composure in time for All Hallows
and the new year.

Nestled in the serenity of majestic
redwoods along the rippling
waters of Clear Creek stands the
world-famous Brookdale Lodge.
The legendary venue, which
once catered to Hollywood’s
elite, including James Dean,
Marilyn Monroe, and Clark Gable
is once again open for business.
Today, guests can stay in
one of 46 newly renovated hotel
rooms, and the lodge boasts an
updated lobby with full bar and
newly furnished VIP area for
private functions. Open to all,
Jerry’s El Buen Taco gastrónomo
on wheels serves hot meals out
front from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Brookdale Lodge renovations
Phase II – an estimated multimillion-dollar
project headed
up by current Lodge Master, Mr.
Pravin Patel – includes the remodel
of the famed Brook Room,
which seats up to 300 diners; the
Fireside Lounge; the Mermaid
Room; the pool area; and additional
cabins. The Brook Room
décor will ultimately include
live foliage much like it once
was in the mid 1920’s, with its
famed creek running through.
This challenging labor of love,
with county approval, also
includes three additional bars,
hot tubs in the pool area, a
restructured stage for entertainment
and live music, and
there has been mention of
an outdoor movie screen.
“Should renovations run
smoothly, the reopening
of the next sections could be
finished by the summer of
2019,” Patel said.
In addition to the upcoming
renovations, the Brookdale
Café will open this winter,
and the Brookdale Market
will be open for business
within the next few weeks.
